Project overview

The frame was shot on white backdrop paper with the stool, the floor seam and the wall join all in view. Both figures are in one exposure and the pose is strong, but nothing in the picture explains it: it still looks like two people balanced on studio furniture.

Transformation details

The stool, the floor seam and the wall join were removed outright rather than softened, and the backdrop was rebuilt as one even field so the pair hang in open space.
A feathered wing was built along the lower figure and shaded to the light already falling on both bodies, so it belongs to the same exposure.
The frame was converted to monochrome with the contrast held on the skin and the feathers, which keeps both silhouettes clear once the colour is gone.
