Project overview

Almost everything in the frame is brown, and the backdrop paper is patchy on the right. Without separation the model dissolves into the background, and the usual fix, more contrast, makes the skin muddy.

Transformation details

The patchy areas of the backdrop were repaired and its tone evened across the frame.
Separation was built by value rather than colour: the backdrop was darkened away from the body edge and the skin's highlights lifted slightly.
The dress was shifted a small amount away from the skin's hue so the two register as different materials.
After frequency separation evened the skin, the leg modelling was rebuilt with dodge and burn.
