Project overview

A large circular light sits directly behind the head. It is a strong, deliberate element, and whatever replaces the plinth has to keep that light working rather than fight it.

Transformation details

The hard-edged circle was softened into a pool of light behind the head and shoulders, so it stays the brightest area of a darker set.
The plinth was replaced with a white grand piano, placed so the seated line lands on the lid.
A matching piano stool and a floor were added below, with shadows cast from the original key.
The set was kept close to monochrome, which leaves the red roses as the only strong colour in the frame.
