Project overview

The right side of the frame is a working studio, with shelving and stored props. Both subjects are low on the floor, so the new setting needs a believable sea bed as well as believable depth.

Transformation details

A sandy sea bed was built at the pose's own floor level, so neither figure had to move.
The water surface was placed above with its light falling from one direction, which keeps underwater light from turning into texture.
A cool grade went on with the skin protected, then a gentle blue falloff was added toward the frame edges for depth.
Bubbles were kept to one rising column; an even scatter across the frame would look like noise.
